Decorations for Christmas 2010 have been a little different for me, but I like them ok, and I hope those who look at them will like them as well.  It's pretty simple this year, so here are some simple pictures!

Plaid Possibilites

For the Beautiful Chirstmas on a Budget Party going on atthis week at Beneath My Heart, I have decided to post some pictures of the dining room. It seems to be the room that has come together the best this year.

I actually went outside and took this picture!  It was cold too, but I was trying to get the effect of how it looked from the outside at night. The effect I was trying to get, didn't work.  You'll just have to come to visit me to see for yourself.  Just call me ahead of time if you plan to look in my window!

 I have tried to keep things a little more simple this year, but at the same time make it beautiful and interesting.  One thing that has been fun to use is plaid.  Plaid ribbon, wrapping paper, fabric for tree skirt, etc.  Using plaid along with burlap, and silver have kept things different in different rooms a little more in unity.
I can't believe it, but I actually discoverd something, or made a craft without even trying too hard.  See the plaid candle holder?  That is actually wrapping paper!  Yes, I couldn't believe it either.  I came up with the idea to decopodge it on the class vase, but when I cut the paper the size of the vase and wrapped it around it, it stayed put.  All I did was put a couple pieces of taped to hold it in place.  I think it would have stayed without the tape; that is if my grandkids did not get hold of it.
 Anyway, I was so excited, I had to tell someone! Maybe you can try doing something different with wrapping paper other than wrapping gifts.

Granna's Little Helpers

HELP!  That's the way I feel sometimes when it comes to cleaning house!   Never fear, HELP is on it's way!  Four granddaughthers are perfect for that!  Not that I wouldn't take the help from four grandsons as well!

It really needs to be described in a post all of it's own, but the roof over our heads covers a pretty large amount of floor space.  I think the exact measurements are something like 3600 sq. ft.  To be honest, it was not originally intended to be that big.  It grew as it was being built!  Actually, there was a mistake in the pouring of the footer at the  very beginning, which caused the foundation to have to be 4 ft. wider all the way around.  I call it a mistake, but really it wasn't.  The Lord knew what He was doing.  He knew the size family we would have to need all the space.  It does make it nice when they are all here.  When it's just the two of us, (which is not very often), it is a BIG house!

It's also a Big house when it comes time to clean it!  I, of all people know that, since I am the maid, I mean the one who cleans it! 

I am so thankful for any help I can get, which brings me to the subject of this post, my Helpers!

Oh, there is another helper!  I am very thankful for any help he can give. He is a very busy man!

 I am in no way complaining about anything.  God has been so good to us and I am so thankful for the nice, BIG  house God has blessed us with and for all the helplers I have.

I've Lost It

The doors to a few of my kitchen cabinets, that is! 

I know some would think me crazy, Lonnie Love being one of them, but this is something I have been wanting to do for a long time.

One of the reasons I have wanted to do this is because some of the doors which started out a beautiful crisp white, have yellowed through the years. ?????? (ugh!)

Since I started seeing it done on some of the decorating blogs I follow, I thought I might as well give it a try.
When I've seen pictures of it done, it really gives the cabinets an updated look. 

So,one Friday evening, while home alone, I took the plunge.....
 I removed the doors off of three of the kitchen cabinets.  (Got one more to do when I figure out what to do with the stuff that is inside it.)

 Think me crazy but,  I love, love, love it.

  It's sooooo easy; only takes about 5 minutes to remove the doors.  Now, the cleaning the insides and arranging what you put in them might take a little longer, but to me that's the fun part.

  I personally think this looks much better than the yellowed doors. 

You decide which you like better.

A Table Top First

This little Table Top vignette is one of my favorites.....one of those that I really, really like good enough to say it's a "keeper". 

That is definitely not normal for me...ask my family.

 Every time I look at it, it makes me happy, so I guess that's a good indication that it is OK!  Hope you enjoy as well.

Meeting Jolene

Jolene

Jolene and David Sloan (http://jolenesupdates.blogspot.com/), missionaries to Ukraine, along with their three beautiful children, David, Nate, and Brianna, came to visit us last Saturday and Sunday. 

My husband stayed with them and was at their church in Ukraine last year.

I have followed Jolene on her blog for sometime now, but had never met her.  It made me feel like those bloggers who follow each other and don't know each other,  and then meet face to face. 

I felt like I knew her, but it was so good to see her in person and to hear her sweet voice (that's interesting too, because you really don't think about what a person sounds like when you never hear them talk, only read about their life). 

Their family is home on furlough and for her to have her fourth child here in January.  They are here (at our house) to visit our church.

What a sweet missionary family!
